2000 Audi A8 Recalls

Two recalls cover the 2000 Audi A8. The most recent was issued in August 2008: “Transmission Locking Cable.” A VIN check at NHTSA shows which are still open on a given car.

  • Transmission Locking Cable

The locking cable may move out of position over time. With the locking cable out of position, the shifter can be moved out of the "park" position even if the ignition key is not in the ignition lock. This could allow the vehicle to roll, causing a crash without warning.

  • Vw/Fuel Filler Neck

Should this happen, the fuel tank pressure will be reduced, which will activate the leak detection system and alert the driver of a system's fault indicated by an instrument panel light.

NHTSA Crash Test Ratings

NHTSA gave the 2000 A8 no overall, frontal or side rating. It did rate each seat in those tests and lists the seat ratings under Rating Breakdown on its page. We show them the same way below. These tests are from before 2011, so the stars are not comparable with ratings for 2011 and newer models. See the 2000 A8 ratings on NHTSA.gov.
